BMA Self Care, Self Aware, Your Wellbeing Matters
Golden Jubilee Conference Centre, Beardmore Street,
CLYDEBANK, G81 4SA
Friday 9 November 2018
This one-day conference aims to help doctors be more aware of their own emotional reactions to difficult and stressful situations, maintain a balance between their professional and personal lives, and learn how to help colleagues in times of difficulty.
Chaired by Dr Sue Robertson, Renal Specialist, Mum and Sportswoman, Sue has been heavily involved in local and national BMA committees for a number of years and is passionate about improving working conditions for doctors.
We have a range of speakers and breakout sessions planned, covering some topics that raise difficult
subjects, but which medics across the board are asking to talk about.
Speakers for the day include:
Dr Hans Hartung and Dr Julie Gordon, NHS Ayrshire & Arran Peer Support – Peer support is a well-documented and researched support mechanism for people involved in events with a strong emotional impact.
Dr Laura McGregor, Emergency Medicine Consultant & Educational Coordinator – Mortality by Occupation : Speaking about Doctors and Suicide
Professor Ewan Macdonald, Head of the Healthy Working Lives Group, University of Glasgow – How to maintain a healthy work/life balance.
Dr Simon Edgar, Director of Medical Education, NHS Lothian – Joy at Work: Personal Resilience
Speakers will host breakout sessions to enable attendees more time to network and discuss the content of their talk.
Other breakout sessions include:
Mindfulness – Helps you to acknowledge your reactions to stressful circumstances and how to deal with them.
Handling difficult conversations – Improve confidence and enhance knowledge and skills for reducing stress, taking action and tackling difficult conversations.
Introduction to Yoga – a total mind-body workout that combines strengthening and stretching poses with deep breathing and meditation.
