Kilbirnie is a Semi-rural practice of approximately 8000 patients in North Ayrshire. We have 5 full time partners – 2 partners are trainers and another is a CSA examiner.
Kilbirnie is a short commute from Glasgow, 10 minutes past Glasgow Airport. We have a long history of being an excellent training practice with a number of trainees having become partners at the practice or returning to locum after training has finished.
We are a friendly, vibrant and supportive practice with all staff involving themselves with registrar development. We try to foster a caring and creative learning environment and offer lots of opportunity to build knowledge and develop clinical skills. We enjoy a balanced day and divide on-call duties and house visits equally each day between us. We all meet after morning surgery for coffee (good quality with a proper coffee machine) and cakes/chocolate or some home baking!!! This is a good time to formally discuss any problems and catch up. We have weekly practice meetings and a protected afternoon of teaching every week for trainees. Trainees enjoy the benefit of a purpose-built health centre with their own spacious room and equipment. All trainees attend local day release teaching in Ayr and attend regional educational courses on top of regular in-house learning. The partners in the practice all work full time – 9 sessions.
The practice is dynamic, progressive and forward thinking. We have an excellent, supportive health care team including a full time practice nurse, a treatment room nurse and a health care assistant. Our reception and administration team are very knowledgeable and experienced and are keen to help and assist our trainees. We also have a number of other health professionals onsite including health visitors, district nurses, podiatrists, physiotherapists, dieticians and a dental surgery. This allows for excellent team work and communication.
