Portland Surgery is a small friendly practice within the seaside town of Troon, South Ayrshire. We have been a training practice for over 27 years with two GP trainers.  We have 3 GP Partners Dr Adam McHattie, Dr Aileen McGregor and Dr James Holland and our salaried GP Dr Susan Rowan-Perry who along with the dedicated admin team create a friendly working atmosphere to ensure the smooth running of the practice.  we have a highly successful training practice history with Dr Holland being one of our previous registrars.Registrars attend study days and also have in-house study periods, tutorials and time at the end of each surgery to discuss their patients with other GP’s.    We pride ourselves on our friendly approach and very much work as a team.  We have regular practice meetings and welcome registrars to attend with their comments, queries and suggestions to encourage and support their role within the practice team.  Previous registrars have gained experience working within our nurse/midwife and health visiting led clinics.  We have also arranged for previous registrars to gain experience with the addiction teams and are open to arranging any experience the registrar may feel they require.  A typical day for the registrar would be having 2 clinics ran alongside other GP’s clinics, shared housecalls and admin work.  We have a practice nurse Fiona who runs all our clinics which include chronic disease management, womens health, travel immunisations, wound management etc.  We work alongside attached staff to offer Health Visiting, midwifery, district nursing, dietetics physiotherapy, community links, addiction, pharmacy technician and Physiotherapy services.  The admin team is led by our Practice Manager Maria.  The practice has a branch site situated in the Barassie area of Troon which is covered by all of the GP’s and staff.   Troon is situated Just a few miles from Prestwick International Airport and 45 minutes from Glasgow Central Station.
