We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, and highly organised Medical Secretary to join our friendly and busy practice. This is a dual-role position, combining medical secretarial responsibilities with front-of-house reception duties, making it ideal for someone who enjoys a varied workload and providing excellent patient care.
Hours: 27 hours over 3 days (Monday, Wednesday & Friday)
Key Responsibilities
Medical Secretary Duties
- Typing of clinical correspondence, referrals, and reports.
- Managing patient referrals and appointments.
- Liaising with hospitals, consultants, and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintaining accurate patient records and ensuring confidentiality at all times.
- Managing incoming correspondence and supporting the clinical team with administrative tasks.
Reception Duties
- Welcoming patients in a professional and friendly manner.
- Booking and managing appointments.
- Answering telephone calls and responding to patient enquiries.
- Registering new patients and updating patient records.
- Processing prescriptions and general administrative tasks.
- Ensuring the reception area remains organised and welcoming.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous experience as a Medical Secretary within a GP practice or healthcare setting (essential).
- Experience working on a busy reception desk.
- Excellent typing and IT skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A professional, compassionate, and patient-focused approach.
- The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Experience with clinical systems such as EMIS, SystmOne, or similar is desirable.
