Oxenward Surgery is looking to recruit an experienced and highly organised Medical Secretary to join our busy and dedicated team on a permanent part time basis working 30 hours per week over 5 days with full flexibility.

The successful candidate will be able to manage a varied workload, work efficiently under pressure, and maintain a high level of accuracy and professionalism at all times.

Whilst the primary focus of the role is Medical Secretary, there will be an expectation to provide ad-hoc reception cover and undertake reception duties when required.

Must Haves
The ideal candidate must demonstrate:
  • Excellent audio typing skills with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong note-taking and minute-taking skills.
  • Experience of scheduling and coordinating meetings.
  • In-depth knowledge of GDPR, confidentiality, and information governance principles.
  • Experienced in liaising with patients, external organisations and NHS colleagues.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • A professional, courteous, and empathetic manner.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to prioritise a demanding workload effectively and manage competing priorities.
  • The ability to adapt and respond to the evolving needs of the practice.
  • The ability to work independently while also being an effective member of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and heathcare IT systems including EMIS, Docman, SCI Gateway and IGPR.

Desirable

The following skills and experience would be advantageous:

  • Previous experience working as a Medical Secretary or in a medical, primary care, or healthcare environment.
  • A working knowledge of IGPR processes.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and clinical correspondence.
  • Knowledge of GP clinical systems and national and local NHS referral pathways.
  • Experience supporting clinicians within a multidisciplinary healthcare setting.
Whilst applications are encouraged from individuals currently working in medical secretarial roles. Consideration may be given to candidates from other professional sectors with transferrable skills who have the ability to adapt quickly to a healthcare environment.
